The Scottish-Lithuanian baritone Daniel Brener is a member of Opera Studio Fauglia in 2026, where he sang Belcore in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore at the Teatro di Fauglia, Pisa, conducted by Gian Paolo Mazzoli. Further engagements include Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at Berlin’s Alte Münze Theatre under the baton of Carlos Spierer, and Schaunard in La bohème in Florence as part of Antonello Allemandi’s conducting masterclasses. He studies with Marian Pop and has received further artistic guidance in masterclasses with Edda Moser, Maria Luigia Borsi and Claudia Visca. In 2025, he also worked with the renowned Bach specialist John Butt OBE at Glasgow Cathedral and was a semi-finalist in the International Nehama Lifshitz Singing Competition. Alongside his musical career, he completed a PhD in theoretical physics at the University of Edinburgh.

BIOGRAPHY

The Scottish-Lithuanian baritone Daniel Brener is a member of Opera Studio Fauglia 2026 in Tuscany. He made his operatic debut in 2023 as Papageno in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Alte Münze Theatre, conducted by Carlos Spierer. This was followed by Belcore in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore at the Teatro di Fauglia under Gian Paolo Mazzoli, Marullo in Rigoletto with North Wales Opera, and Schaunard in Puccini’s La bohème in Florence as part of Antonello Allemandi’s conducting masterclasses. His repertoire also includes the Hunter in Dvořák’s Rusalka.

As a concert soloist, Daniel has recently appeared in Bach’s St Matthew Passion at Stevenson Hall in Glasgow, the St John Passion at Linlithgow Palace, the Christmas Oratorio, and the cantata Ich habe genug, BWV 82, at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh. Further solo appearances include Bach cantatas BWV 32, 36, 41, 70, 71, 101, 103, 140 and 155, Haydn’s The Creation, and Stanford’s Nunc dimittis at St Albans Cathedral. Since the founding of the Glasgow Bach Cantata Project in 2021, he has appeared regularly as a soloist with the ensemble and, through this work, has collaborated with the renowned Bach specialist John Butt OBE.

Daniel comes from a family of professional musicians and theatre practitioners and grew up immersed in opera, drama and classical music from an early age. He studies singing with Marian Pop and regularly works with the renowned conductors and coaches Byron Knutson, Irène Kudela, Symeon Ioannidis, Edward Reeve, Eric Schneider and John Norris. He has received further artistic guidance in masterclasses with Edda Moser at Haus Marteau, Maria Luigia Borsi and Claudia Visca. Alongside his musical training, Daniel completed a PhD in theoretical physics at the University of Edinburgh.In 2023, Daniel received the Lily Niblock Memorial Scholarship from Opernfest Berlin. In 2025, he reached the semi-finals of the International Nehama Lifshitz Singing Competition in Lithuania, and in 2026 he was selected for Opera Studio Fauglia through their international competition.

Current engagements for the 2025/26 season include Belcore in L’elisir d’amore at the Teatro di Fauglia, Schaunard in La bohème in Florence, and Bach’s St Matthew Passion at Stevenson Hall, Glasgow.
